How the exam works

How the exam works
  • Arrive on time at the location stated on your admission notice
(any delay results in non-admission without refund, except in exceptional circumstances supported by documentation submitted within one month.)
  • Present a valid photo ID
(national ID card, passport, driving licence, asylum-seeker's receipt, etc.)
  • Sign the attendance sheet without fail.
  • A photograph is taken for TCF Canada candidates.
Getting settled in the exam room
  • Leave all personal belongings outside (only the admission notice, ID and a blue/black pen are permitted).
  • The invigilator will review the instructions (nature of the tests, duration, penalties for fraud, results date).
  • No unauthorised materials are permitted (books, phones, earphones, etc.).

How the exam works

Tests may be taken on paper or by computer (TCF SO), depending on the centre's equipment.

Content, duration and assessment procedures are strictly identical in both formats.

Results and validity

  • Results are sent to the test centre within 15 working days.
  • Candidates receive a secure link to access their official attestation online.
  • The attestation is valid for 2 years from the date of issue.
  • It is kept on file for 10 years by France Éducation international.

Time between sittings

  • The minimum period between two TCF Canada sittings has been reduced to 20 days, down from 30 days previously. This change allows candidates to resit the exam more quickly, while maintaining the reliability and validity of results.
